Sarnia Casino

Gateway Casinos Sarnia isn’t the biggest land-based casino in Ontario, but it still has some interesting games available. The property is located in Sarnia, in southwestern Ontario, and it has been active since Jan. 31, 2020. Before it became part of Gateway, it was closed for more than eight years under Ontario Lottery and Gaming ownership.

The entire property occupies 531,000 square feet, and the casino floor alone consists of 23,000 square feet. Its doors are open every day from 9 a.m. and 1 a.m. Moreover, Gateway Casinos Sarnia is adjacent to Hiawatha Horse Park, where visitors can view simulcast racing and live harness racing, although the latter is only available during the season. Apart from the casino, you’ll find an entertainment centre with baseball diamonds, volleyball courts and a fully automated driving range.

Gateway Casinos Sarnia slots & casino games

Visitors to Gateway Casinos Sarnia in Ontario can expect to play the following selection of slot machines and casino games:

Slot machines

Slots are the only type of casino game you’ll currently find at Gateway Casinos Sarnia. The casino floor features 150 slot machines, much fewer than many other casinos in Ontario. Nevertheless, you’ll find some of the top land-based slot titles. Here are some popular options you’re likely to encounter:

  • Dancing Drums: A five-reel video slot inspired by Chinese tradition. You’ll find plenty of golden symbols on the reels, such as golden dragons, coins and more. It allows you to get gold symbols and unlock bigger jackpots if you make bigger bets. Moreover, the slot features a bonus round that triggers if you land three drums or wild symbols on the first three reels. You can choose more free spins with fewer ways to win or vice versa.
  • Cleopatra Gold: From International Gaming Technology (IGT), one of the leading land-based and online casino game providers, Cleopatra Gold is one of the most popular Egyptian-themed slots in the world. The game features 20 fixed paylines, and the top prize is 5,250x your bet. Cleopatra Gold has a return-to-player rate of 95.97%
  • Quick Hit: This is actually a line of slots from Bally Technologies. The provider released a game called Quick Hit, which became very popular, so it made several others, such as Quick Hit Las Vegas, Quick Hit Black Gold and Quick Hit Pro. The game is a five-reel slot with 30 paylines, and the highest payout is 2,500 credits.
  • Blazing 7s: Blazing 7s is probably the longest-lasting land-based slot. It is decades old, featuring a simple three-reel grid, just like the slot machines that were popular more than half a century ago. However, Blazing 7s offers immersive gameplay and even features an interesting progressive jackpot system. Playing this game feels like walking down memory lane, straight into a casino from the mid-20th century.
  • Wheel of Fortune: Several types of slots offer wheel-of-fortune-like features, and the most popular one is from IGT, conveniently named Wheel of Fortune. It lets you spin the magic wheel and receive prizes if you’re lucky.
  • Buffalo Gold: Developed by Aristocrat, Buffalo (and its successor Buffalo Gold) are some of the most popular slot machines. Buffalo Gold features five reels and is a high-volatility slot inspired by the American West and the majestic bison. Apart from high payouts, this title features amazing animations and graphics.

You’ll also find Lightning Link slot machines and other classic titles, such as Tarzan.

Table games

Unfortunately, Gateway Casinos Sarnia doesn’t offer any table games. It’s the only Gateway Casinos property besides Clinton that offers only slots. All other Gateway casinos feature at least a couple of electronic table games. The primary purpose of the original Sarnia location, however, was to be an addition to the racetrack where visitors could play slots, which is why that’s the only game available.

Can I play poker at Gateway Casinos Sarnia?

No. Gateway Casinos Sarnia does not offer poker at the moment.

My Club Rewards program

All Gateway Casinos in Ontario are part of the My Club Rewards program. The program’s main advantage is that you can collect your points by playing games in any Gateway property, where you can also redeem them. Apart from Sarnia, other eligible venues for this program are in the following locations:

By playing games in any of these facilities, you’ll earn tier and reward points. For every $10 you spend on reel slots, you’ll get one reward point. The rate is one for every $20 for video poker and $40 for e-table games, which aren’t available at Gateway Casino Sarnia. You can redeem your points and receive free slot play. Alternatively, you can spend them to get discounts on some of the dining options at Gateway facilities.

The same rate applies for tier points, which you need to collect to progress through the tiered membership structure and receive additional benefits. The casino currently offers five tiers:

  • Rewards (0 to 999 points)
  • Silver (1,000 to 4,999)
  • Gold (5,000 to 24,999)
  • Elite (25,000+)
  • Ultra (invite only)

Those who reach the Ultra level will get additional benefits, such as hotel valets, priority check-ins and priority restaurant seating. The membership level is based on the number of points you accumulated from April 1 to March 31 of the previous year.

Gateway Casinos Sarnia responsible gambling program

All Gateway casinos, including the one in Sarnia, are part of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment’s responsible gambling program. The casino company offers a voluntary self-exclusion program that will prohibit you from gambling in all Gateway casinos in British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta. This program also includes many online slots.

Moreover, Gateway properties also must pass the RG Check accreditation program from the Responsible Gambling Council. The RGC is a third-party, independent and nonprofit firm that provides accreditation for more than 75% of all casinos in the province.

Finally, all gambling staff in Gateway properties must undergo appropriate response training, which teaches them to assist players who might have a gambling problem.

Gateway Casinos Sarnia history and current owners

Gateway Casinos Sarnia is a relatively new property that opened its doors in 2020. However, Ontario Lottery and Gaming previously operated a small casino there. Unfortunately, it shut down in 2012 and remained closed for eight years before Gateway bought and revamped it.
