Parleh Media Group Closes $1 Million Pre-Seed Round

Parleh Media Group (PMG) isn’t slowing down anytime soon, thanks to the addition of a pair of sports betting leaders.

Benjie Cherniak and Chris Grove have come on as investors in the digital media company. Their additions officially closed PMG’s $1 million pre-seed financing round.

The announcement is just the latest tidal wave in a string of industry-leading moves by PMG.

Last month the business launched Canada’s first-ever dedicated sports betting networkToronto’s first multi-sports news channel followed soon after.

PMG founder, Mark Silver, is hoping the duo can push the company even further.

“The rise of open and regulated sports betting markets has created a once-in-a-generation disruption in the business of sports and media,” said Silver via a PMG press release.

“Having Benjie and Chris, two highly-respected leaders in the sports betting industry, invest in Parleh Media Group and also helping us on our journey is validation that we’re on the right track.”

Experience counts

Cherniak – based in Las Vegas – was previously the Managing Director of Don Best Sports.

In that role, he formed partnerships across the Americas, Europe and Asia before his company sold to Scientific Games in 2018.

He says there are parallels between The Parleh and Don Best – making for a great opportunity.

Meanwhile, Grove is an investor and serial entrepreneur.

He is a partner at Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, and his investment portfolio impresses PMG.

“I met The Parleh founders soon after it launched and quickly recognized how their brand of sports betting content could potentially fill a void for sports fans,” said Grove.

Going against the grain, finding success

One prominent challenge industry leaders continue to be stumped by is engaging casual and hardcore betting fans simultaneously.

The Parleh may be cracking that code, though.

According to a Sportico.com report, “Parleh videos received more than 1 million views in October, up from just 30,000 in August.”

Typically, sports betting shows or segments have focused on longer-form debate-style sports programming.

But The Parleh has gone the other direction.

The company has instead focused on short-form, awareness-level video content.

Cherniak noted that this is likely more appealing to the younger demographic of casual sports bettors.

The emergence of social media platforms such as Instagram and Tik Tok conditioned many youngsters to expect shorter snippets.

The Parleh’s content

The Parleh offers daily shows such as Parleh Today, Parleh Picks, Puck Talks, and more (in terms of content). And they cover all the major North American sports leagues, including the NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB.

Parleh TV covers all of these leagues and more, including international soccer.

Meanwhile, Parleh TV Toronto focuses entirely on the Toronto sports scene.
