Sportsnet is betting on Cabbie Richards.
Renowned sports media personality Cabral Richards – better known as Cabbie – is returning home as executive producer of sports betting content. Sportsnet announced the decision on Sept.14.
Richards, originally from Toronto, returns to the company after 15-plus years. In that time, the animated interviewer logged hours at The Score, TSN, and most recently Bleacher Report (B/R).
“Having an opportunity to come home and help build the betting portfolio, social experiences, and ride the highs and lows of wagering with Sportsnet has me hyped like hitting a 15-leg parlay,” said Richards via press release.
“I can’t wait to start engaging with the betting community, which has been thriving under wraps in Canada for decades. Let’s get it!”
Cabbie to usher in new betting era at Sportsnet
Richards comes as no stranger to the gambling world.
With B/R, he helped co-host the company’s Betting Show alongside Kelly Stewart.
There, they discussed the Las Vegas Caesars Sportsbook while also interviewing many high-profile celebrities along the way.
The 44-year-old’s return comes just weeks after the legalization of single-game betting in Canada.
That’s likely no coincidence.
Wagers have been exploding ever since, and companies have jumped at the opportunity.
“Cabbie’s style, enthusiasm, and originality are unrivalled, and his addition to Sportsnet is another exciting step in our expansion into sports betting and continued content innovation,” said Andrew Sutherland, VP of original content at Sportsnet.
Richards’ original claim to fame came through his “Cabbie on the Street” segments done in the 2000s.
A-listers such as the late Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Sidney Crosby and more made for some of his most memorable interviews.
Since then, fans have followed Richards in his various sports media roles.
Sportsnet expects its star personality to be involved in multiple platforms at the company.
